GraspOS

About

GraspOS develops, assesses and operates an open and trusted federated infrastructure for next generation research metrics and indicators, offering comprehensive data collection mechanisms, advanced analytical tools, and detailed guidance for implementation across diverse research ecosystems. The project aims to enhance transparency, reproducibility, and fairness in research evaluation while supporting evidence-based decision making throughout the research lifecycle.

User Groups

Mutual Benefits

GraspOS can leverage various technologies developed by SciLake, particularly in knowledge extraction and management, to enhance its enrichment, monitoring, and data services. SciLake's focus on assisting domain experts in creating domain-specific SKGs can provide valuable input for assessing research contributions within those domains capturing valuable information for domain-specific contributions. Finally, SciLake's federated architecture can inform and influence the architectural design of GraspOS. SciLake aims to deliver technological solutions for creating domain-specific SKGs, and GraspOS provides a concrete use case in the Research Assessment domain. This domain presents a compelling application for the SKG technologies that are the primary focus of the SciLake project.

Expected Outcomes and Goals

Both projects will utilise and extend the SKG-IF data model to ensure interoperability between scientific data sources. This joint effort will help standardise SKG-IF extensions and will provide real-world use cases for SKG-IF extensions. Collaboration will help both projects avoid redundant work by aligning their efforts, sharing insights, and co-developing solutions, leading to more efficient progress. The federated architecture of SciLake will inform and influence the design of GraspOS. The two projects are expected to share technologies, for instance SciLake datasets and tools can become part of the resources of the GraspOS ecosystem.

Joint Activities

Representatives from both projects monitor each other's developments and have early access to project deliverables. The projects also actively pursue opportunities for joint events.

  • In April 2024, both projects were recognised by the European Commission as key contributors to the research assessment reform and issued a joint press release: https://scilake.eu/eosc-rar
  • In October 2024, we organised a joint EOSC Symposium unconference session to engage the EOSC Community on recent developments in the interoperability framework for SKGs: https://scilake.eu/scilake-at-eosc-symposium-2024
