‍What's new in SciLake ‍


-‍ SciLake First Integrated System -

We are excited to announce the completion of our second milestone, marking the "First Integrated System" of the SciLake project. Over the past 18 months, we have developed beta versions of all software components, now integrated into an initial system that showcases our current functionalities. This milestone is a significant step in our mission to create domain-specific Scientific Knowledge Graphs and develop value-added services for research communities.

‍- Pilot Press Releases -

‍Exciting progress is happening with the pilot programs in Neuroscience, Cancer, Transportation, and Energy research, now in full operation. Each pilot has recently issued a press release to share their strides in creating or enriching Scientific Knowledge Graphs that capture valuable knowledge from their respective scientific fields.


Highlights 


‍- SciLake for Advancing Research Assessment -

‍‍SciLake is proud to be recognized by the European Commission as a key contributor for research assessment reform. On April 10th, 2024, our coordinator, Thanasis Vergoulis (Athena Research Center), was invited to present our project at the EOSC-CoARA workshop, to showcase how SciLake is advancing open infrastructures for research assessment.

- European Association for Machine Translation -

SciLake's partners from Athena Research Center showcased major advancements in Machine Translation for the scientific domain at the 25th EAMT Conference, featuring a poster presentation and a conference paper on innovative translation models.

‍- GRADES - NDA 2024 -

Our SciLake partner, Daan de Graaf from TU/e, participated in the 7th Joint Workshop on Graph Data Management Experiences Systems (GRADES) and Network Data Analytics (NDA). Daan presented the HomeRun tool, which is designed to optimize query performance in graph databases.

-Transport Research Arena 2024-

‍Afroditi Anagnostopoulou and Xenophon Kitsios (CERTH) represented SciLake at the 2024 Transportation Research Arena in Dublin, Ireland. They delivered an insightful presentation on the innovative use of Knowledge Graphs in Transport Research.

- EOSC4Cancer Landscape Partnering -

‍At the February EOSC4Cancer Landscape Partnering meeting, Thanasis Vergoulis (Athena Research Center) and Leily Rabbani (Karolinska Intitutet) discussed the SciLake vision and roadmap for unlocking insights in cancer research through knowledge graphs.

- EOSC Winter School 2024 -

During the EOSC Winter School 2024 in Thessaloniki, SciLake representatives and other leading experts gathered to discuss various aspects of Open Scholarly Communication, including its definition to the challenges it faces, and its future trajectory.


  Announcements 


‍- EOSC Symposium 2024 -

SciLake will be participating in the EOSC Symposium 2024, in Berlin, Germany from 21-23 October 2024, where we are co-organising the Unconference Sessions #2: EOSC Collaborative Frontiers to Achieve Interoperability and Enhance Scholarly Data.

‍- 3rd Project Plenary Meeting -

The next plenary consortium meeting will take place in Eindhoven on 27-28 November 2024, hosted by the TU/e team. The event is open to all project members and will be an opportunity to review progress halfway and plan for the final year of the project.
